Shelly- Ann Sankar and James Channing, May 16, 2009
Shelly and James met during the Summer of 2006 while working in the same District Attorney's Office. What began as simply two colleagues, turned into a friendship, which blossomed into a romantic relationship. Initially it was difficult balancing the relationship in the office. We agreed it was in our best interest to keep the work place and our personal lives separate.
In December 2006 we were able to take time off to celebrate the New Year. We both love to travel and decided to choose a city in which neither of us had spent a large amount of time before. We agreed on New Orleans. Since then, New Orleans has held a special place in our hearts. We hope that you will be able to join us in New Orleans to celebrate our commitment and love to each other. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
The Proposal
James created this entire website and all he asked of me was to write our proposal story. This is actually a good idea since his version would be 3 sentences "We went to Providence. I asked her. She said 'yes'." It's much more romantic than that.
It is difficult to pinpoint exactly when our friendship began to turn into something more. We worked so closely together and wanted to take things slow. So for our first official "date" on October 7, 2006, James took me to Providence, RI. We went to Waterfire (Waterfire), had dinner at the Parkside (Parkside Rotisserie) and then walked through a little park across from the restaurant. At the end of the evening, I felt so euphoric. I was so happy to be with him. It was very romantic. I later told James how much that night, and more specifially that walk through the park, meant to me.
On June 3, 2008, James recreated everything about that first date, including the walk through the park. We sat on a bench in the park where he told me how much he cared for me and how he wants to spend the rest of his life with me and I just broke down in tears. He makes me so happy and every day that I'm with him, I feel blessed.
